Tribute at One Loudoun: Five Fun Ways To Bring Holiday Cheer To Seniors This Holiday Season

It’s the holidays – and here at Tribute At One Loudoun in Ashburn, Virginia, we’re cookin’! The scent of fresh-baked cookies, breads and cakes is all over our community right now – and we love it!

It’s the holidays – and here at Tribute At One Loudoun in Ashburn, Virginia, we’re cookin’!

The scent of fresh-baked cookies, breads and cakes is all over our community right now – and we love it! Our residents have gotten together to bake their favorite holiday dishes for their neighbors here at Tribute.

The results are delicious.

But that’s not all. In December, all our residents – in our Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care neighborhoods – have enjoyed an array of special holiday treats, from eggnog and fudge to apple cider, cookies and Rice Krispy treats shaped like Christmas ornaments! Plus, we’re celebrating Hanukkah with some fresh-baked rugelach.

It’s a Winter Wonderland! Celebrate With Us (Safely!) On December 16

Our neighbors around Ashburn VA are invited to come by our Winter Wonderland for tons of holiday fun! We’ll have live carolers, hot chocolate, gift baskets, Christmas light displays, and Santa Claus himself!

Your family stays in your vehicle while the fun comes (safely) to you! Please RSVP for the Winter Wonderland to 571-252-8292.

Obviously, this holiday season is unlike any other. The winter wave of this historic, dangerous pandemic is sweeping across the country and keeping people apart from each other for now.

But we’re an active community here at Tribute. Our culture emphasizes and encourages beautiful experiences and social connections throughout our independent living, assisted living, and memory care neighborhoods. That’s never more important than during the holidays to our senior friends and relatives – COVID-19 or no.

So, we’re ready to celebrate all the holidays with our residents here at Tribute At One Loudoun – and we have some great ideas about how! Here are Five Fun Ways To Bring Holiday Cheer To Seniors This Christmas in 2020!

 1. Play the role of Santa for your loved one.

Stuff a stocking with decorations, cards, a favorite candy or two, maybe a few photos to spark some great memories, or a CD by one of their favorite bands.

Package the stocking up and mail it, or present it to your loved one at their home here at Tribute if you can safely visit.

There’s another great way to play Santa for the greater community of senior citizens near you. Whether you’re a neighbor of ours here in Ashburn VA, or you live in another community, find the local Santas For Silvers or Santa To A Senior program in your area and get involved. You’ll make someone’s Christmas brighter and better!

 2. Watch your favorite holiday movies together – even if you’re not together!

It could be Movie Night or Movie Matinée, but schedule Movie Time with your loved one to enjoy a classic holiday movie!

Take a journey on The Polar Express, or bust a gut laughing at Will Ferrell as Elf. Whether it’s on tape or Netflix, it’s tremendous fun to watch movies with people you love!

 3. Bake some festive cookies.

A great family activity during the holidays is a cookie exchange. Make sure to share the sweetness with your senior loved ones!

Before you fire up the oven, ask them about their favorite cookie, or maybe they have an old recipe. Vanilla butter sugar cookies, chocolate crinkles, peppermint snickerdoodles, gingerbread men, the ones with green and red icing in the shape of candy canes…you really can’t go wrong!

Bake ‘em up and take ‘em over (or mail ‘em over) – then be sure to connect on video so you can enjoy them together! (Otherwise…there’s always fruitcake!)

 4. Decorate for them.

Decorating for the holidays together is a tradition in many families. Here at Tribute At One Loudoun, many of our residents are putting up their own artificial Christmas trees and holiday decorations in celebration of the season. If you can safely visit, come help your senior loved one decorate the tree and deck the halls!

It’s a great chance to share stories and memories, reminisce about keepsake ornaments, and debate the virtues of all-white lights versus multi-colored.

 5. Sing some holiday carols over video call.

Music is essential to living here at Tribute At One Loudoun and across the entire Cadence Living family nationwide – so getting together to sing holiday carols is only natural!

The fact is, singing in close proximity risks spread – but technology has an answer: Share the joy of caroling together over the Internet! Have a caroling party together, or just entertain your loved one by performing an exclusive concert just for them.

Connect over a video chat program like FaceTime, Zoom, Google Meet, or whichever you and your senior loved one prefer. Set up the tablet or smartphone by the piano, get everyone’s voices warmed up, and Jingle All The Way!

Make It A Great Holiday For Your Favorite Seniors
